Neighbors in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle tell Safeway to “Share The Success”.

Today’s simultaneous UFCW “Share the Success” Campaign Kick-Off events in five cities throughout Puget Sound were a great success. We received solid press attention and a total of about 150 people showed up in Seattle, Bellingham, Mill Creek, Auburn and Bremerton.

There are now thousands of signs all over the Puget Sound asking grocery stores to “Share The Success.”

We want to thank all the customers in the Puget Sound who have been so supportive of grocery workers has we negotiate with QFC, Fred Meyer, Safeway and Albertson’s.

It looks like a great event in Bellingham:

‘SHARE THE SUCCESS’ CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF

Five simultaneous events in Puget Sound calling employers to share profits

Puget Sound— As United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) in Southern California prepares for a key vote this Sunday and workers in Texas get set to strike, grocery employees in the Puget Sound region hold five simultaneous ‘Share the Success’ kick-off events throughout the region (locations below).
Seattle’s event, Thursday, June 21st at 10:00 a.m. at Safeway on the top of Queen Anne Hill (2100 Queen Anne Ave. N.) will have workers from Texas, Southern California and Puget Sound available for press interviews.
Four other events, occurring at the same time at four stores in Bellingham; Mill Creek; Bremerton; and Auburn (store names and addresses below), will feature Puget Sound area workers who will be available at each location for interviews.
“The over 20,000 Puget Sound UFCW grocery and retail workers are a critical part of our communities and the reason Safeway, Albertsons, QFC and Fred Meyer are earning record profits,” says Jackie O’Ryan, UFCW spokesperson. “It’s time these profitable companies share the success.”
These three national chains rank among the top 50 richest companies in the nation, according to Fortune Magazine, while a quarter of their workers here in the Puget Sound make less than $10 an hour and their average work week is only 26 hours.

During these contract negotiations, UFCW is focusing on wage increases to meet the cost of living, affordable health care, sick leave and family-friendly scheduling.
California, Texas and Puget Sound workers are available for interviews at the Seattle event. Employees in the cities below will be available at these locations:

Albertson’s
3210 Northwest Ave.
Bellingham

Fred Meyer
12906 Bothell-Everett Hwy, Mill Creek

Safeway
900 N Callow Ave.
Bremerton

Albertson’s
1347 Auburn Way N.
Auburn
